Getting started

Getting started

You can either set up your account with braintree on your PC or laptop or use the app to log in with your smartphone. If you already have your Paypal account you can log in with your paypal user name and password.

If you but wish to open a new account for your business need just check in here.

Braintree offers a variety of products that make it easy for you to accept payments in your app or website. They act as the credit card terminal you swipe your card through at the grocery store. All your customers’ payment information is transported safely and securely.

What you’ll need is to know what type of account you need with them like a Business bank account where you can get your funds deposited into this account automatically – it’s up to you to decide which institution you use for your business’s bank account.

Then there is a merchant account to route funds from your customers’ accounts to your business bank account. Braintree provides a merchant account as a part of the Braintree Direct setup.

Also Braintree’s payment gateway will connect you to all of the banking institutions and payment processors that you need in order to collect money from your customers. You’ll give the payment information to Braintree, and it will let you know if the transaction was approved by the bank.

Payment method you can use

Braintree payment methods

Integrating with Braintree offers your customers many different ways to pay. Here are some of the following methods accepted by Braintree

  • Android Pay: Most merchants located in the US, Europe, and APAC regions can accept Android Pay transactions from participating customers – with approval from Google.
  • Apple Pay: Most merchants located in the US, Europe, and APAC regions can accept Apple Pay transactions from participating customers – depending on your processor settings.
  • Credit cards: Braintree’s US merchant accounts bundle Visa, Mastercard, Discover, JCB, and sometimes American Express as the default accepted payment types.
  • Debit cards: When processing payments online, credit and debit cards are handled the same, as long as they are issued by a major card brand. Because PINs cannot be accepted online, debit cards will always be run as credit.

  • Prepaid credit cards: While prepaid cards may process successfully for one-time transactions, it doesn’t encourage merchants to store prepaid cards in the Vault, because it’s difficult to ensure that a prepaid card will have enough funds on it to cover future transactions. Though they wont block prepaid card transactions, but you may experience higher processor decline rates when accepting this payment method.
  • Special-use cards: Credit and debit cards issued for specific purchases – like HSAs and FSAsor P-Cards – can only be accepted if your merchant account is associated with the appropriate MCC (Merchant Category Code).
  • Masterpass: Masterpass is a digital wallet that allows customers to store all of their major debit and credit cards in one account. Masterpass is currently available in a limited release to US merchants.
  • PayPal: Braintree is the only payment platform that allows you to accept both cards and PayPal through a single integration.
  • PayPal Credit: PayPal Credit is a payment method provided by PayPal that offers customers a line of credit to purchase big ticket items on your site or mobile app – allowing you to get paid immediately, and customers to pay off the purchase over time.
  • UnionPay: UnionPay is the major provider of credit and debit cards for customers in China. Most European merchants settling in USD, GBP, EUR, or CHF can accept UnionPay credit and debit cards.
  • Venmo: Venmo allows customers on iOS and Android devices to connect their Venmo account to your mobile app – making it easy for them to make purchases using their bank account, credit and debit cards, or Venmo balance. Paying with Venmo is currently available in a limited release to select merchants in the US
  • Visa Checkout: Visa Checkout is a digital wallet that allows customers to store all of their major debit and credit cards in one account.

Note that Brain tree accepts over 130 currencies
